How To Receive God's Forgiveness

Updated: Mar 2

Hi & welcome back reader! I pray you're having a blessed day, and may the Lord Jesus Christ be your Perfect Peace!

Today, I'm gonna talk about how to correctly ask God for HIS forgiveness of YOUR sins, & focus specifically on:

There is also a Reflection + Ending Scripture provided at the end of the post.

[You can now click the subtitles above to take you directly to a specific topic!]

Like I mentioned in previous posts, a Christian's #1 resource should be the Bible, and of course, I will show you these specifics in the Bible.

Let's begin!

How Do I Approach God?

Firstly, you need to know WHO you are approaching. Who is this God you are asking to forgive you of your sins?

He is The Creator of the Heavens and Earth.(Genesis 1:1-19). He is The God of Adam and Eve, whom He casted out of the Garden of Eden because of THEIR sin (Genesis 3:23-24).

He IS The God who sent His only begotten Son (John 3:16) to die for wretched sinners like YOU and ME and fix the error of man: sin (1 John 3:5). And through His Son's sacrifice, through His Son's blood (Matthew 26:28), YOU may be pardoned, liberated, & free from YOUR sin. Jesus Christ's blood frees YOU from the wage of sin: death.

YOU can ONLY be forgiven and pardoned from your sins through Jesus Christ, The Holy Lamb, The Atonement & Propitiation of Our Sins ALONE (1 John 2:1-2)!

This is the God you are approaching. Acknowledging who He is and what He has done is the first step to approaching Him. There are a few more things on how to approach Him and attract Him to hear your petition for forgiveness, so let's continue reading!

What Moves God To Forgive Me?

Are you ready for the answer? It's so simple. Humility, Brokenness, & Contrition. THE Creator of The Heavens and The Earth is moved by humility, brokenness, & contrition. He doesn't care for your accolades, achievements, honors, or MONEY. Nothing of carnal or materialistic value can buy His forgiveness. You can't buy it, BUT if you are humble, broken, and contrite about your sin, OH HE IS WILLING TO FORGIVE YOU!

I will keep stressing this. The I AM wants humility, brokenness, and contrition from YOU! This is the sweet and delightful aroma that is pleasant to The I AM's Heavenly Nostrils.

Let me show in The Word of God:

  • Psalm 51:16-17, "For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering. (17) The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise." KJV Version.

  • Psalm 34:18, "The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit." KJV Version.

  • 2 Chronicles 7:14, "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." KJV Version.

  • James 4:6, "But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble." KJV Version.

Do you see? Humility, Brokenness, and Contrition at heart about YOUR sins is what moves God to forgive you of your transgressions. He cares nothing for your so-called "good deeds". Or the "God I did all of this and this!" That's cool, but are you coming before HIM in humility, brokenness, and contrition about YOUR sins? He is so beautiful in how He orchestrates the process of TRUE forgiveness of sins. It is absolutely free. Any man or woman can do it. It's not limited to the respect of persons. ANYONE! All He asks for is humility, brokenness, and contrition at heart about YOUR sins. That's all. No payment. It's free to come before Him. Just come before Him with those three attributes and He WILL hear your plea. Your cry. Your supplication. Your petition. & your prayer to have your sins forgiven by the Almighty God: The I AM.

Amen & Amen!!!

The 3-Step Process

This is going to be short and sweet. Now that we have gone over the "basics" of coming to God in forgiveness, I am going to sum it up in three steps.

***DISCRETION***

PLEASE don't make out asking for his forgiveness like a checklist.

For example, "okay, Valencia said do it SPECIFICALLY like this...okay check! Then the next thing--"

I know that sounds hypocritical of me, since I've labeled this The 3-Step Process; however, I'm just trying to break it down for you the best way I know how to. Remember God likes contrition at the heart, so you may add things in your prayer that I do not. This is between you and The I AM. This is your conversation with Jesus Christ. Add whatever is on your heart; HOWEVER, make sure you approach him in humility and brokenness about your sin, you acknowledge and confess your sin, and then you ask for HIS forgiveness, so you can truly be forgiven. That's all I'm saying.

Number 1- Acknowledge and Confess Your Sins

You need to address that what you're doing is labeled as a sin. "How do I find out if what I'm doing is a sin?" You go to The Word of God. Once you find that out, approach God in prayer. Prayer is a One-on-one communication with The Father and yourself. Come before Him, admitting your sins. Describe what you've done. Admit that is was wicked and against The Word of God. Confess that you're a sinner or that you've sinned.

Number 2-Ask For His Forgiveness

A simple,

"Dear Heavenly Father, I'm coming before You asking for Your forgiveness. Only You can forgive me of my transgressions. Allow my transgressions to be washed away in the blood of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Have mercy on me, oh God! Cleanse me! Renew me! And forgive me for transgressing against The Laws of God!"

& BOOM! He has forgiven you.

Personally, I add a lot of adjectives whenever I'm asking for forgiveness of sins. It's what I do. NOT saying it's a requirement, but I do it, so God knows that I understand I am in NEED of His forgiveness and in NEED of a Savior to cleanse me from my transgressions.

Number 3-REPENTANCE

Repentance is the changing of your mind and the ways you once had. It's changing how you previously were thinking and doing things that led you into sin. This is what you do after asking for God's forgiveness. Now that you've passed the stage of being forgiven, it's now time to work on not doing that sin again. A lot of people can do the first two steps, but skip this one. As a result, they fall back into the VERY sin they asked God to forgive them for. They didn't repent. While you're in the midst of asking God for His forgiveness, ask Him to help you not commit that sin again. Ask the Holy Spirit to convict you whenever you put yourself in situations to make you sin. You have to do the work too. This means avoiding devices, and even people that would make you commit sin. You may have to stop watching or listening to certain type of media. You can't engage in certain type of conversations. You won't be able to do some of the things you did while you were in sin.

Repentance calls for disciplining yourself and abstaining from your fleshly desires.

I'll add these two verses:

  • 1 Thessalonians 5:22, "Abstain from all appearance of evil." KJV Version.

  • James 4:7, "Submit yourselves therefore to God, Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." KJV Version.

Reflection + Ending Scripture

I thank you for taking the time to read this blog post. I pray you use this information for the edification of yourself and others. I do pray that you learn how to ask for God's forgiveness of your sins and that He freely gives it to you. I also pray if you're not a child of God that you choose today, to become one. I'm free to chat, if you want!

I'll leave with these 3 verses:

James 4:8-10, "Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. (9) Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. (10) Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up." KJV Version.
