This lesson was birthed out of about three entries in my journal. Recently, (for the past few months) The Holy Spirit has taken me back to the transitional period of Israel leaving Egypt and entering their Promise Land; however, it wasn’t a smooth transition. There are many lessons and things I picked up on, which will be explained in this video:
However, the IMPORTANCE is: REMEMBER HIS WORD, so you DON’T charge Him FOOLISHLY and set your own self back!

Notes from Teaching Video:
Introduction
One of the greatest lessons The Holy Spirit taught me is, “What is the heart?” The Greek word for heart is “Kardia”, which reminds you of cardio, cardiology, or a cardiologist. The heart is also known and called as the soul and the mind. The Biblical definition of the heart is it being the fountain and seat of our thoughts, passions, desires, appetites, affections, purposes, and endeavors. It is the core of you. The title of this message is called, “Take Heed To Your Soul”, which means pay close attention to your thoughts’ passions; desires; appetites; affections; purposes; and endeavors. The importance and stress of taking heed is because what’s meditated on in your heart will sooner or later become an–ACTION. Also known as a WORK. We know there are both righteous and unrighteous works, but only one pleases The Most High, which is Proverbs 4:23 KJV is a key scripture,
“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”
The Word “Keep” means to guard, which is also similar to “take heed…” You must guard your heart because it can defile and contaminate your Faith. Before diving into the topic, I wanted to provide a brief explanation of the title and how it is spiritually rooted in the scriptures.
What I Want To Focus On
The importance of digesting The Word of God
How To Encourage Yourself In The Word
Topic 1: “Only take heed…”
Deuteronomy 4:9 KJV, “Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach them thy sons, and thy sons' sons;”
Deuteronomy 4:9 AMP, “Only pay attention and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things which your eyes have seen and they do not depart from your heart all the days of your life. Make them known to your children and your grandchildren [impressing these things on their mind and penetrating their heart with these truths]—”
First things first, why would someone provide a caution or warning? Because they know there is a possibility for a negative to happen. Not that a will; HOWEVER, a POSSIBILITY–a CHANCE– such negative things can happen. The Most High told the children of Jacob to take pay close attention to themselves and to guard their hearts with His commandments, so they do not what? Forget all this majestic and almighty God has done in Egypt and throughout the wilderness. He then goes on to stress how important this step is because He tells them to impress these things on their mind and allow it to penetrate their heart. Does this not sound extreme? Why is The Most High stressing this? Because He understands the heart He made, and the sinful mistake Adam (Mankind), which removed the eternal guarding and fencing around their heart. He understands the principles He placed inside of Mankind’s heart. It is similar to gardening and planting. A seed will turn into fruit, if nourished.
A seed will turn into a fruit, if nourished.
A seed will turn into a fruit, if nourished.
Whatever the seed’s components are will be produced in the fruit. The fruit is the expression of the seed’s potential. The fruit is the expression of the seed’s potential. The fruit is the expression of the seed’s potential.
Since the Fall of Man, the innate nature of Mankind is wickedness. They are now prone to rebel and stir of wickedness because of their rebellion in the garden and new father–Satan (the father of lies). In order to combat this knowledge, so the children of Jacob do not sin against their God, The Most High gave them the solution–meditate or nourish the seeds of my commandments in your heart, so you do not bring forth fruit of wickedness, but of My righteousness. Therefore–
He has made me a person to love the idea of “cause and effect”. If He said they had to pay close attention to themselves (their behaviors; their routines etc.) and to guard their hearts, lest the FORGET all that He has done, what will happen if they do not keep guard? They will forget Him. When you forget the only source of righteousness, how can you know and do righteousness? You can’t. If you go jump to Deuteronomy 6:6-9, you see The Most High, once again, stress the importance of remembering Him and all that He has done and commanded:
Deuteronomy 6:6-9 AMP, These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be [written] on your heart and mind. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your [a]children [impressing God’s precepts on their minds and penetrating their hearts with His truths] and shall speak of them when you sit in your house and when you walk on the road and when you lie down and when you get up. 8 And you shall bind them as a sign on your hand (forearm), and they shall be used as [b]bands (frontals, frontlets) on your forehead. 9 You shall write them on the [c]doorposts of your house and on your gates.”
Why does someone reiterate something? They are wanting to stress the importance of the matter. The children of Israel didn’t have The Holy Spirit, so they had to go the extra mile; however, in Hebrews 10:16, TMH granted us The Holy Spirit to HELP us remember and reflect on His Word, statutes, and commandments. This doesn’t mean we no longer have to study The Word–absolutely not! We are still supposed to be diligent in The Word of God (2 Timothy 3:14-17; 2 Timothy 2:15; and 1 Peter 3:15). The Spirit will be present in your studying to help you UNDERSTAND; RETAIN; and ACTIVATE The Word in your life at opportune times.
Another point I would like to stress is Proverbs 22:6 AMP, “Train up a child in the way he should go [teaching him to seek God’s wisdom and will for his abilities and talents], Even when he is old he will not depart from it.” The Most High understands the spiritual perspective behind this law. See how TMH stressed impressing His values and precepts into the hearts and minds of children because He knows it’ll be a struggle (not impossible) but struggle if they were not because Satan will insert his seeds too.
The importance of a Holy-TRAINED mindset. All actions are preceded from a thought. A drive that influences our actions and our emotions. The Most High, through Moses, was stressing to the children of Jacob that in order for them to keep and cling fast to their God’s laws, commandments, and statues, they should make sure their mind is staying STEADFAST in all the things their God did for them BECAUSE it would remind Him how good He was and how good and faithful He will continue to be because He is The Lord and He changes not! As believers, we must train our cleave to how good and faithful The Most High has been, so we do not sin against Him and charge Him foolishly!
This is the importance of MEDITATING on His Word DAY and NIGHT. Believers must master the battle in their mind with the help of the life-breathing scriptures from their Father.
Topic 2: “Why are you in despair, O my soul?”
It all comes down to the seed and how you nourish it. Let me show you an example of heeding to what TMH said about paying close attention to ourselves and guarding our hearts help us in dire and discouraging times:
Psalm 42:5-6 KJV, “ Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.
(6) O my God, my soul is cast down within me: therefore will I remember thee from the land of Jordan, and of the Hermonites, from the hill Mizar.”
Psalm 42 is one of my favorite chapters because of the intimacy I have with it–experiences of depression and agony. The writer of this Psalm is pouring out their heart and realities of what they’re going through. The writer is at a lowly point even to the point they say, “My tears have been my food day and night…” Do you get this imagery? You eat throughout the day, preferably at day and night, which means this writer has been sorrowful and depressed non-stop. I have felt that before. The writer chose, out of their own freewill, to not curse their God because of their circumstances; however, they decided to encourage their soul. How so? By REFLECTING on what their God did for them. This writer could have sinned and charged The Most High foolishly with their words like, “How could YOU allow this to happen?! Are YOU even here?! Do YOU even hear me?! My God has FORSAKEN me.” When you’re deep into your emotions (let’s talk about depression), you’re braced with a lot of thoughts.
I want you to picture two 2-liter bottles of liquid being poured into the sink. Now the gravity (the gravity of the situation, if you will) is going to pull of these liquids into the sink and eventually into the hole of the sink, which represents your mind–your dwelling place of what you choose to meditate on, It’s chaotic to see liquid rushing down into the facet, if you were an ant. When we are in our emotions, we want them to stop. We want a break. We want peace. We don’t know what to do sometimes. You liquid from TMH trying to enter you, but you also have liquid from Satan to enter you, but here’s the thing? You have freewill. It’s your sink. Your sinkhole. You can choose to set a blocker or a divider to stop one of the two to from entering your sinkhole. Now, that you have that imagery…the writer of Psalm 42 decided to receive the liquid of God’s 2-liter, and setup a blocker from Satan’s. Because this writer remembered of how good his God was to Him in the land of Jordan, you do not witness Him sin against God with in speech; however, he praises Him and tells his OWN SOUL (because you can speak life into yourself), “Why are you casted down? Why are you silent? Why has your praise for Him stopped? I command you to think back to the goodness and faithfulness of your Father! Get up! Arise soul into the joy of The Lord!”
Reflecting and remembering on the scripture (and the testimonies of God’s faithfulness) will help you not charge Christ foolishly with your tongue, but to praise Him blissfully because He is worthy of it. A discouraged heart can cause you to sin, as well, which is also another reason I BELIEVE this writer chose to quickly encourage themself with the memories of God’s goodness and faithfulness.
Topic 3: You MUST Encourage Yourself Along The Way!!!
Deuteronomy 1:26-28 KJV, “Notwithstanding ye would not go up, but rebelled against the commandment of the Lord your God: (27) And ye murmured in your tents, and said, Because the Lord hated us, he hath brought us forth out of the land of Egypt, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us. (28) Whither shall we go up? our brethren have discouraged our heart, saying, The people is greater and taller than we; the cities are great and walled up to heaven; and moreover we have seen the sons of the Anakims there.”
When I read this, I wrote in my Bible, “A discouraged heart can lead to rebellion! (Luke 21:19)” In addition, I wrote, “You MUST encourage yourself along the journey or you will rebel!!!” The story of David came into my mind afterwards (1 Samuel 30:6). David and his men returned home to Ziklag and saw it was overthrown and burned with fire. The Amalekites also taken captive Judah’s were deeply sore because of this, so sore they thought to stone David. David was under the storage of losing his two wives and now his OWN people are speaking of stoning him. However, instead of being discouraged by his brethren (with betrayal) and the loss of his wives scripture says,
“...but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.”
David CHOSE to not be submerged with the distresses of his reality, but went and encouraged himself in The Most High. Then, he took a step further and INQUIRED The Most High of, “What shall I do?” or “What say ye?” and His God answered Him and gave Him the victory. What do we do when the distresses of our reality? Do we submerge in our feelings, which in turn make us grow faint and rebel against the commands of God?
OR
Do we take a MOMENT to breathe;reflect;encourage; and inquire? The Word says, “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.” The scripture–actually–the CONFIDENCE in the scripture is our hope to breathe; reflect; encourage; and inquire.
Psalm 27:14 KJV, “Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.”
